Why become a volunteer with Bexley Voice?

We are a small group of trustees, staff and volunteers who strive to continually improve the quality of life for SEN parent carers and their children and young people.
When considering becoming a BV volunteer, you will need to:
- Have some spare time, commitment and passion! Most of our workshops, events and meetings take place during school term time, during the day, but there are also opportunities to support evening workshops and meetings too
- Have a genuine passion to help support Bexley Voice deliver on our vision, mission and aims
- Be realistic about the time and commitment you can offer and the responsibilities that you take on
- Have the skills, experience and knowledge required for the roles and/or be prepared to undertake relevant training
What roles do we have available?
Here is a list of some of the roles currently available. We provide on the job training and buddies to support new volunteers:
- Helping to organise and/or support when we visit local schools (online and face to face)
- Helping to man our Bexley Voice support, information and signposting tables at community events
- Supporting at our parent carer Tea & Talk support groups, making tea and coffee; providing peer support to parents and sharing information and signposting about SEN services and activities
- Becoming a parent representative, attending meetings to share the voice of Bexley parent carers with decision-makers (with another parent rep)
- Assisting with the development and promotion of Bexley Voice led consultations
- Proofreading and parent sensing documents and the Bexley Voice website
- Becoming a Bexley Voice trustee. As a trustee you are responsible for steering our strategic direction and ensuring that we are following our objectives as set out by the Charity Commission
- Subject to experience, qualifications etc to co-present SEN parent workshops on a variety of topics
Next steps
- Complete our Volunteer Application Form stating which role(s) you are interested in
- Members of Bexley Voice will be in touch to arrange to meet for an informal discussion to find out more about your motivation to volunteer; skills and experience; identify the best fit for you within our team
- If we progress, then you undertake an induction, including an overview of our services; introduction to your buddy; relevant information about Bexley Voice including confidentiality; conflicts of interest; training; safeguarding; reclaiming expenses etc; along with the specific responsibilities and obligations of your role
- You will be issued with a Bexley Voice teeshirt and lanyard to wear when representing Bexley Voice
